The Knee Program

Knees and ankles are the most commonly injured body parts of netballers and most of these injuries occur when landing. In particular injury to one of the major stabilisers of the knee, the Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL), is a common problem, annually representing approximately 25% of serious injuries (Netball Australia National Insurance Data).

Knowing all too well the devastation created by serious knee injuries, Netball Australia’s KNEE Program is designed to prevent them occurring.

Scoring Information

A reminder to all families – you are required to score sometime during the season.

Mountain District Netball Association requires that each team provide a RESPONSIBLE and COMPETENT scorer at each match.

Scoring for netball is very straight forward. Please refer to the MDNA scoring information and example sheet for details on how to correctly complete the scoresheet – this is on our website. The MDNA By-Laws also provide useful information.

Please ask another parent or your team manager to assist if you are unsure. We do advise all Team Managers to prepare a roster for the season. If you are unable to score on your designated week, then seek to swap with another family or contact the Team Manager to change to another date.

New and fill in players

Ensure all names appear on the team sheet (players’ names are pre-printed on the sheets)

New Players: If a player does not appear on the team sheet, ensure they have paid VNA (Victorian Netball Registration) in the MDNA Office (next to the kiosk) BEFORE THE GAME. Next to their name on the score sheet write the word “new”, i.e. Joan Smith (new). Single game VNA vouchers are no longer available on Saturdays.

Fill in Players: If you have a player filling in from another team, you must write next to their name what team and division they are from, i.e. Joan Smith (SFCNC 13/3). Please note after the first 3 rounds, players are only allowed to play in grades or ages above the team they are in, i.e. a 13/2 player can only fill in 13/1 and 15’s and 17’s.

IF YOU HAVE ANY QUERIES, DON’T HESITATE TO VISIT THE OFFICE BEFORE THE GAME – they are more than happy to help out, particularly when you have a new player to add.

Totals – Scoresheets must be totalled and signed for the winning team to receive four points – if incomplete, 2 points are awarded to each team. If you are scoring, please double check that this is done, even if you aren’t filling out the sheet.

Injuries – All injuries must be noted on the bottom of the scoresheet for insurance purposes.

Forfeits – The penalties for forfeiting a game are as follows: A loss of four points. The other team gets 4 points and the forfeiting team gets -4 (not 0) points. SFCNC has to pay double court costs. 9/11/13(Div3) = $30 extra. 13(Div1/2)/15/17 = $40 extra.

We therefore expect our teams to take the court if they have 5 or more players. Do try to find players from a lower division who are having a bye – a player can play “up” a division twice in a season. If you have 4 or less players, a scratch match can be played – you can find any other players to make up a team. In this case, the points’ penalty applies but SFCNC doesn’t have to pay the other team’s court costs. If a forfeit is unavoidable, please contact the club as soon as possible so MDNA can be notified. This means the other team can be notified before the game and there is a small reduction in fees if more than 24 hrs notice is given.

Scoring Instructions

Before the game

If a SFCNC team is first-named, the scorer rostered on by their team has to obtain a scoresheet (on clipboard) from the Court Supervisor’s office. The opposing team’s scorer will be beside you during the game to monitor and assist.

Request coaches from both teams to mark the positions of each player on the score sheet.

If a SFCNC team is second-named, it is the opposing team’s responsibility to perform most, if not all, of the instructions here. Our duty is to verify that everything is marked appropriately and that the correct scoring procedure is followed.

During the game

For every goal scored, circle the Running Score and indicate which player (GA or GS) made the goal. Each quarter has a separate section.

At the bottom of the score sheet, indicate which team Centre started after (a) each goal was scored or (b) at the start of a new set (has to alternate). This is to monitor equal playing starts.

At the end of the game, total the score for all four quarters.

Sign the scoresheet and ask your team coach and team captain to sign as well. Request the opposing team to do the same.

Return the scoresheet to the Court Supervisor’s office.

If you are a rostered scorer and you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to talk to your Team Coach or Team Manager.
